Kenton Nielson, Associate Conductor

Kenton grew up in Spanish Fork where he attended school and played an active roll in the performing arts community. He has had leading & directing roles in more than 20 theatre productions; including The Fantasticks, Into the Woods, Peter Pan, Bye Bye Birdie & Hello Dolly. While still attending high school, Kenton had the opportunity to participate in Drum Corps International as a member or the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps where he toured extensively and participated in the DCI World Championships.

Kenton has taught High School marching band for 5 years in the Nebo School district. In 1997 he held the position of Musical and Orchestra Director of SFACT. He is a current member of the National Association for Music Educators.

Kenton holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from Utah Valley University where he graduated Cum Laude. While studying at the University, he served as the Chapter President of the colligate chapter of M.E.N.C. Kenton also served as Student Conductor of the University's Chamber Choir. In the 2002-2003 academic year, he was honored as the Outstanding Music Student of the Year from the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. In 2004 he had the unique opportunity to work in student government as the Music department representative to the Academic Senate. Most recently Kenton was the male soloist winner of the UVU 2007 Aria Competition.

Kenton currently lives in Orem with his wife Janna, and their son Scott.
